What is "IamJoshuaRuss?"

IAMJR - logo

If you answered, "um isn't that your name..." You would be correct but there's more to it.  When Moses asked God what to say when the Israelites asked, what is the name of the God of their fathers who sent him, he was told "I am that I am" or "I am what I am."  It is a subtle way of remembering the God who goes before me.

It's also a reminder to minister with the identity God has given you. I'm not some great evangelist or a pastor of a mega-church. I have no official title whatsoever. I am Joshua Russ, that's it, and I will minister with whom God has made and called me to be. I encourage you to do the same! It'd be a terrible thing for ministry to become your identity, but it's a beautiful thing to minister from the identity God has given you!

Return to the “old paths.” If you’re like me, you’ve heard it time and time again.

“Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭6:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Suddenly I became curious about what “old” was supposed to mean. The old ways aren’t how they did it in the 80s, the 50s, or even the 1900s. The old paths have never been on how PEOPLE did it. The word old in the original text was Olam (5769 for reference). 11 times, that word is translated as “old,” but 136 times it’s translated as “forever” and 110 as “everlasting.” Return to the forever ways, the everlasting ways… That puts a whole new meaning on it. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Return to the Old paths has always been about turning back to THE Way, not just some way. It’s about Jesus at the center of it all.

Is your path Godly? Does your path follow the Word of God? If not, you’re on the wrong path.

It’s always been as simple as “Love God, Love people.”

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:30-31‬

No greater commandment. No greater way. Living for God. Walking in love. That’s the path to return to.
